Objective(s): The children will…collaborate and build a dog house out of the open ended materials provided.

Materials Needed:

• Popsicle sticks
• Glue
• Pipecleaners
• wood 
• cardboard/ cardboard boxes
• Shoe boxes
• Egg crates
• Rope
• Feathers
• Leaves
• Toilet paper/paper towel rolls
• fabric 
• Plastic bottles
• Blocks
• Clay
• Glue/ hot glue
• Scissors
• Stapler
• etc.

Introductory Activity: To introduce this activity, I will allow my students to have some “tech time” in their groups to do some research to get ideas of what they might want their dog house to look like. I will also provide books for them to research ideas in as well. This should get the students’ “creative juices” flowing.

Procedures: (do not describe the intro activity again)

1. While the children are independently doing their research in their small groups, lay out all of the materials for this project. (This should not be time consuming because the materials should already be gathered in a box or bag and just need to be laid out.)
2. When the children feel they have done enough research allow them to get the materials they need. (Remember: Even though they are working together, they still should build a dog house of their own because they will each adopt their own dog on Friday)
3. Once the children have completed their dog houses, it is time for our next lesson/activity: Adopt our dog stuffed animals!

I will mostly assess their learning through observation because the objective was for the students to collaborate and build a dog house out of the open ended materials provided.
