While exploring Module 1, Teaching & Learning with Technology, I learned that technology can be used in a variety of ways in a classroom. Technology can be used when teaching reading and/or writing, math, science, etc. I also learned that it is not as hard as we would think to incorporate technology into the classroom either.
The video lecture over the topic of “Authentically and Effectively embedding technology into teaching” made a few good points and suggested a few things to consider. The lecture mentioned how technology is becoming a huge part of teaching whether we like it or not. So, how can we re-examine out materials and/or pedagogy to help our students succeed? I think these are important questions we need to be asking ourselves as we will soon enter the teaching profession.
I copied the picture of the Web Literacy Map used in the lecture because I felt it was important. In the lecture, O’Byrne said as long as you are exploring, building or connecting you are contributing to technology. I did not realise it but almost everyone in today’s world contributes to technology in some type of way and kids are so interested in it. So, how could you could you not incorporate in into your future classroom?
The article that I read in this module was “What is Backward Design?” (https://via.hypothes.is/https://educationaltechnology.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/backward-design.pdf). I loved reading this article. I believe it is a great way to go about teaching. I, personally, am a goal-setter. I feel better when I set and reach goals. I also think it is crucial to stress the importance of setting goals to my future students. I also believe this is a strategy that could work for children of all ages (early, elementary, middle and secondary) if you go about it in the right way. I also wanted to point out a short line that I annotated in the article. The line read: “standards inform and shape our work.” I think this line is so important because yes, standards to shape our work. Standards tell us WHAT to teach, but they don’t tell us HOW we have to go about teaching. And, I think this is very important to remember. We need to remember to stay creative with our “HOW.”
