Module 4

Module 4 Reflection/Synthesis:

Online Content Construction

Module 4 moves on from the consuming and collaborating part of being online to the creating part of it. Module 4’s main focus is encouraging online content construction. This means, to create online content whether it be something as little as a blog post to a website to an app. As mentioned in the previous modules, we start off as consumers of online content. To consume means to use. As we got a little further into the modules, it was explained that we move from consumers to collaborators. This means that we are working with one another through technology. Then we move from collaborators to creators. We begin to create content for others to consume.

In this module I found some of the readings to be helpful and interesting. One of the readings, “Construction and/or Creation of Online Content” have a few points that stood out to me. It mentions how educators need to find and incorporate a way to consolidate students work in digital, visual and multimodal content construction (https://hyp.is/ZGsTgHBeEeqItW_42oXNow/wiobyrne.com/construction-andor-creation-of-online-content/). I do agree with this point. The only question is “how?”. I’ll admit that I am not the best or most technologically savvy. However, I would LOVE to learn new ways to incorporate technology into my future classroom so that way my students will be more engaged with what is going on. I also love when students can express their creativity and would love for them to be able to express their creativity through their online content construction. I also think this is a great form of assessment. This alternative form of assessment kind of steers away from the “tests” that no one likes.

In one of the videos (https://youtu.be/1gPm-c1wRsQ) I watched in this module, the very first thing he said was that they found students to be more creative outside of school than inside school. I truly believe that is because they are not given the opportunity to be creative like they should. So, now that we have moved onto being creators of online content, how do you plan to incorporate it into your classroom? How will you give your students chances for online content construction in your classroom? How will you plan to encourage your students to construct online contern? How will you allow your students to express their creativity in your classroom?
